It has been a long time. To those returning after all these years, welcome back. And to anyone discovering In the Land of Jazz for the first time, welcome!
This blog began as a way to share my enthusiasm for music and connect with fellow listeners. That enthusiasm is still here, even though the way we discover and listen to music has changed.
In the Land of Jazz is now opening a new chapter, with a focus on the recordings, musicians and physical records that have stayed with me through decades of listening and collecting. Jazz will remain at its heart, alongside Blues and Latin music.
Many of you knew me here as Jazz Messenger. Behind that name are years spent working in the Jazz, Blues and World Music departments at Tower Records and Virgin Megastore in London—and many more spent exploring record shops, reading sleeve notes and listening.
I’m now gradually offering selected CDs, vinyl records and box sets from my personal collection on eBay. Alongside these, I’ll be sharing listening notes, favourite sessions and recordings worth rediscovering.
The old download links are being retired as the archive is tidied up. The music, and the conversations around it, still have a place here.
Thank you for visiting—and for listening.
